Healthy Habits: Setting and Keeping Goals

One challenge that many of my clients face is finding motivation to work out. Sometimes just thinking about working out can be extremely draining, especially when my clients are mentally beating themselves up for not exercising.  

 

The next time you find yourself struggling and failing to find motivation to make it to the gym, choose something easier. For example, you can decide to take a walk or run in place until you can quiet your mind. Maybe you can do 10 squats and 10 sit-ups, or you can do 25 jumping jacks. If you don’t feel like getting exercise, you should still try to focus your energy on a positive practice like meditation or even some quiet rest.

 

Doing something immediately instead of spending energy thinking about what you’re not doing can be much less draining. Depending on how often you have these types of draining thoughts and react in a positive, immediate way, you might find you’re getting real benefits from doing just a little.
